Restorative Session Fall 2017.jpg

Pilates Mat Class

Tuesdays at 6 pm (regular scheduled class)
with Tracy Pearce, CYT, CFT

In this class we will focus on moving the body mindfully and smoothly. With correct pelvic and spinal alignment a series of progressive exercise sequences will be taught, that condition the whole body. Pilates strengthens your “core” – the centre of the body which includes all the muscles that attach to your spine - so it’s more than just your abdominals! Strengthening the deep abdominal muscles closest to the spine enables more functional movement of the hips and shoulders. Build strength in the whole body, thereby increasing range of motion and flexibility. You will leave class feeling stronger, longer and able to move more freely!

Yoga…Designed for Aging Bodies + Minds

with Maureen Rae, RN, E-RYT, YACEP
Sunday, October 29
1:30 - 5:00 pm

It was THE WHO who famously declared: “Hope I die before I get old!” and never before have aging generations embraced this adage! Getting Old...Who Wants It?! Fitness and Yoga professionals are reporting a huge surge in the number of active seniors attending classes. We are faced with instructing ages from 50-90! And all in the same class! Students are educated, and they want to be physically active as a deterrent to some of the realities of older age.  The focus of our time together will be to explore:
• safe and effective poses, and pose sequences;
• fun props, chairs for those students who need them; and
• breathing techniques that are appropriate for this age group.

We will also discuss loneliness, feelings of isolation and of being unloved, and how connection with the group can help. According to an Amsterdam-based study of the elderly, reported in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry in 2013, “Loneliness increases the risk of dementia in older adults by as much as 64%.”

Teaching Chair Yoga
with Christine Ling, E-RYT, YACEP
Sunday, October 15, 2017
1:30 – 4:30 pm

Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced either sitting in a chair, or standing alongside a chair – using it as support. This type of approach may appeal to students who may be unable to get up and down to the mat – as required in a regular yoga class. Those students with disabilities or other health issues such as vertigo, high blood pressure, chronic pain or a myriad of other conditions which would prevent them from otherwise practicing yoga, will find this style of yoga to be very enjoyable and highly beneficial. Join Christine for a fun and most informative afternoon which will enhance your teaching skills.
Teacher Certificate supplied. Full Manual. Canfitpro CEC’s available upon request.
