Maureen Rae's Yoga Studio is owned and
operated by Maureen Rae, Reg. N., E-RYT, Certified Nia Dance
Instructor.
She has trained with Erich Schiffmann of Santa
Monica, California, the Desikachars of India, and Angela Farmer
of Greece, among others.
Maureen teaches a flowing Vinyasa Style yoga class, integrating
techniques from Viniyoga (henceforth to be known as Yoga in
the style of Krishnamacharya) ...and favours function and
feeling, over form.
She is known throughout the industry for innovative sequencing.
She has been involved in the fitness industry for over 30
years, the yoga industry for over 15 years, and has been training
instructors since 1986 . She brings a fresh, authentic approach
to yoga that reflects her life-long practice which she began
at age 13.
The picture to the left is NOT Maureen. This is Ganesha..
(Although, when Mo was a teenager, she thought that her nose
and her ears WERE indeed this big...and still prefers not
to be photographed. Over time, Yoga helped with a new perspective!)
Back to Ganesha...the Hindu deity in a human form but with
the head of an elephant - represents the power of the Supreme
Being that removes obstacles and ensures success in human
endeavors. For this reason, Hindus worship Ganesha first before
beginning any religious, spiritual or worldly activity. In
Hindu mythology, the portrayal of Lord Ganesha as the blend
of human
and animal parts symbolizes the ideals of perfection as conceived
by Hindu sages and illustrates some philosophical concepts
of profound spiritual significance.
Elephant head, wide mouth, and large ears: the large head
of an elephant symbolizes wisdom, understanding, and a discriminating
intellect that one must possess to attain perfection in life.
The wide mouth represents the natural human desire to enjoy
life in the world. The large ears signify that a perfect person
is the one who possesses a great capacity to listen to others
and assimilate ideas.
This is the perspective from which we teach yoga at our studio....to
help others to enjoy their lives, and to help them achieve
their goals and dreams by listening inwardly.
Ohm Shanti.
